WHAT ARE OUR CUSTOMERS SAYING?
BARHAM ON THE MURRAY RIVER
70 years ago Jack and Wini Williamson purchased a sandhill in Barham on the banks of the Murray River, in southern NSW. They built their home nearby and named the property 'Kurrnung'. Together with his wife Sandra, their son, Phil, developed the property into a highly productive, 290-acre citrus orchard. In the late '90s after completing her education their daughter, Emma returned home to the family business and began working alongside her father and still is to this day.
PRODUCING OUR OWN BRAND OF JUICE EST. 2012
When the viable price per tonne dropped from $340 per tonne to $170 per tonne led to countless orchards being abandoned and destroyed because they could not afford to keep the trees in the ground. In 2012 Phil, Sandra and Emma further expanded the 'Kurrnung' orchard to include an on-farm processing and bottling plant that would ensure they would get a viable price per tonne for their fruit and their fellow growers – The Great Australian Squeeze was born. In 2019, experiencing space restrictions the bottling plant was moved down the road and across the river in Koondrook, Victoria.
OUR FAMILY BUSINESS
Today the fourth generation of the Williamson family is growing up on the property and each has their own role to play in the production chain. The established orchard consists of Navel and Valencia oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes and produces more than 6,000 tonnes of fresh Australian citrus fruit each year. We will continue to do what we can to support local growers and producers because we believe that it makes sense to keep the major supply of our food local.
